Missing Donkey?
Dear Fran,
You've been doing a splendid job as secretary for the donkey union but there is one tiny mistake I feel inclined to point out. My sweet Geraldine is not the animal shown with the unicorn horn on her forehead. I do remember the incident which involved flying over the head of a rather beastly troll, I believe, and the donkey in question was marvelous--but it wasn't Geraldine (Agnes, perhaps?).
I am rather concerned that Geraldine might be missing or perhaps in some trouble. She had a very strong attachment to one of the stallions ridden by the hooded riders. Truth be told, she was head over donkey ears in love with him. I know Firestarter personally and I don't think he'd do her any harm, but if she's missing or languishing somewhere pining away, I must locate her.
Please do a head count and see if you can find her. If all else fails I'll be there tomorrow to get a search party together and put up posters offering a reward for her return. I am so looking forward to the festivities in Duwamish and am hoping to ride in on Geraldine.

Confession from The Secretary: I hope this is not the beginning of extreme old age. I do apologize to both donkeys and your dear self. As soon as I have had a chance to untangle the aged brain I shall attend to the matter. (please do not report me to the Boss Donkey as he is already a bit irrate and has sneaked into the office and used my slate again. (Could he have messed up the messages. Signed The Secretary
From the Secretary after querying the donkeys:
I am sorry for the mix up, and sorry to report that Geraldine is, indeed, missing and you will not be able to use her for this year's trip. It seems the romance was very successful as Geraldine did not come with us. Her reason a happy one: A tiny hinney, named Georgina, is sleeping quite soundly in the hill cave above the Hermitage. Her mother has given up travelling for a time. Please do not inform the wee one's father as the whole affair might be embarrassing to paternal relatives. As for the Boss Donkey he deserves to be upset for it was he who deliberately mixed up the papers fearing that I might disapprove. (All males are a bit silly about this sort of thing. I do hope the Tall Tower does not send out a microphone.)I trust you, Agnes, and Geraldine will all be forgiving and have found a dolphin messenger to take our best wishes to the new wee one. You may have first choice among the other Union members for your trip.
Yours The Secretary
Faucon you are lucky: Try travelling up the river with the whole herd practicing for that concert Heather is threatening. The Secretary
Fran, is there a pic coming of the dear little hinney, Georgina, in the cave by the Hermitage??? (Hope so very much. Wee one will be gorgeous to see!)
My dear Imogen: At present we are on the Island of the Great White Owl. I will send yet another message and, perhaps a camera by the Four Dolphins who will find someone from the Hermitage to meet Geraldine and take the picture for I too would love to see the little one. More word after my day of conference with the White Owl. The Secretary
Message received, over and out.
"embarrassing to paternal relatives," you say. Well, I have no intention of making any trouble for you Dear Heart, but trust me, when I next meet Firestarter's rider I will certainly question him about the matter. I'm sure Geraldine will make a wonderful mother, but if this was a one-night stand and she is left bereft and weeping in her oats, someone will pay.
As I said, I have no quarrel with you or the donkey union, and if a small cart is still available that will be fine. All your donkeys are quite charming and I did hear a rumor that you've hired a new donkey named Felicity. ??? Oreo the cat and Tookey, my Amazon parrot, will be accompanying me.
Regards,
Believer
Delighted, I have not yet met Felicity but presume you are right. Cart will be ready. I shall be watching as you leave the pier. Have you made arrangements with the Ferry Women or are you planning to fly the short way across the river from the Island. Our cart and donkeys are provided with wings. The Secretary
I think I'll take the ferry, I love any kind of boat trip! I just saw the picture of Geraldine and her daughter. Like mother like daughter;love the hats. :-)
Good show: I'll arrange with the Owl to have the jetty prepared for the arrival. Cheers, The Secretary
