The Platypus, another from Zologic
Take pity on the platypus,
it must be so confusing;
to be a furry monotreme
is befuddling and bemusing.
When you're like both bird and mammal
it's a problem hard to handle:
The product of ambivalence and
a biological scandal.
Neighbors look at them askance
as if, with fur and four legs,
they have no right to hatch a clutch
then go on laying more eggs.
They must feel they are the victims
of some evolutionary fiddle;
to be a duck at each end
and a beaver in the middle.
